The government is planning and working on expanding this service to every state of the country so that people can easily apply for e-passports.

Is It Mandatory to Apply For e-Passports?

No, please note that passport holders don't need to apply for e-passports, and also, it is not mandated to replace the physical copies of passports with electronic passports. Both the physical and electronic forms of passports are valid till their expiry date.
