The Central Board of Direct Taxes under the Income Tax Department (ITD) of India has released all 7 Income Tax Return (ITR) forms for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26 along with their respective deadlines to be followed by the people for the filing of their taxes. However, there is a question that people are worried about and. i.e., if they need to file their ITR by 31st July 2025? The answer to this depends on the kind of category of taxpayers you come under.
Read the article to learn more about the deadlines to be followed to file this year’s Income Tax Return (ITR) forms.
All those people who are salaried individuals, freelancers, or small business owners who aren’t required to get their accounts audited need to file the Income Tax Return forms by 31st July 2025 for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. This is to be followed by Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) and small firms as well.
If you’re someone who is associated with a business entity or professionals who are mandated to get their accounts audited, the deadline of 31st July 2025 does not apply to you. Along with such businesses and professionals, the ITR filing by 31st July 2025 is not for partners of firms that require audits or their spouses, and for taxpayers who have to submit a report under Section 92E related to international dealings.
For all these categories of taxpayers mentioned above, the deadlines are different and extended.
People are required to fill out the correct forms to file their ITR based on the kind of taxpayer they are. All forms are mentioned below for one’s better understanding in detail:
ITR-1: Sahaj form is for resident individuals with an annual income of up to Rs. 50 lakhs, including income from salary, a house property, interest, or agricultural income up to Rs. 5000.
ITR-2: For people who don’t earn from business but from capital gains.
ITR-4: Sugam form is for individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, and small firms (not Limited Liability Partnerships- LLPs) with earnings up to Rs. 50 lakh.
ITR-5: For LLPs, partnerships, and cooperative societies.
ITR-6: For companies registered under the Companies Act.
ITR-7: To be filled by trusts, charities, and similar institutions.
Below is a table that comprises deadlines released for various categories of taxpayers.
Category of Taxpayer | Deadline |
---|---|
Individual/HUFs/Associations of Persons (AOP)/Bodies of Individuals (BOI) | 31st July 2025 |
