Farmer ID Registration

The Government of Maharashtra has made it compulsory for all farmers to possess a Farmer ID to avail the benefits from the government schemes like PM Kisan Yojana and state-sponsored Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi starting from 15th April. These schemes together help farmers by giving them ₹12,000 every year. Farmer ID falls under the national policy aimed at computerising farm documents, digitising farm records, and centrally managing farm databases in an Agristack.

What Is The Farmer ID System?

Every registered farmer in the state is assigned a specific identification number known as the Farmer Identification Number. This Mandatory Farmer ID is associated with the farmers:

  • Aadhaar number

  • Crop patterns

  • Land records

  • Livestock ownership

  • Benefits from previous schemes

The database is expected to help correctly check who qualifies for welfare schemes and make it easier to give them financial help. The relevant data will be fetched from the records maintained by the Revenue and Agriculture Departments, and revisions will be done on a regular basis.

Why Is It Being Introduced?

Instating this Mandatory Farmer ID is a step towards the Centre’s Agristack initiative, which aims to develop a digital profile for every Indian farmer. By consolidating this information, the government hopes to accomplish the following:

  • Stop repetition and deception within the distribution of social welfare.

  • Disperse benefits to genuine beneficiaries only.

  • Monitor the implementation of government policies at the constituency level.

  • Facilitate agriculture-based policy formulation.

Current Status Of Farmer ID Enrollment

Maharashtra has 1.71 crore registered farmer accounts, and the current statistics are:

  • 1 crore farmers have been issued Farmer ID.

  • 70 lakh farmers (approx. 41%) still need to register.

The state government has issued a resolution calling upon farmers to register without delay. The resolution also directs Gram Krishi Vikas Samitis, Common Service Centres (CSCs), and other field staff to help farmers register.

How To Register For A Farmer ID?

Unregistered farmers can come to the village or district centres with their Aadhaar card to register. The registration process is quick and simple.

Documents Required:

After registering, farmers get a Unique Identification Number (UIN) which is linked to their details of landholding and the crop details.

Benefits Linked To The Farmer ID

The Mandatory Farmer ID is set to become the single gateway for all government schemes and financial support related to agriculture.

This Mandatory Farmer ID serves as an entry point for all future agricultural assistance.

Government’s Response

Officials from the Agriculture Department have assured that:

  • No private company will have access to the database without consent.

  • The information will be used strictly for government welfare schemes.

  • Privacy safeguards will be in place.

Conclusion

The Farmer ID is now a crucial requirement for accessing key agricultural schemes in Maharashtra. With 41% of farmers still unregistered, immediate action is needed to ensure they don’t miss out on vital benefits like PM Kisan and Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi. This move not only streamlines welfare distribution but also strengthens the digital transformation of Indian agriculture.
