Colour-coded fuel stickers are stickers designed to help the authorities identify the type of fuel that the vehicle runs on. The stickers are launched for the ease of authorities so that they can identify high-fuel-emission vehicles.
There are three major types of colour-coded fuel stickers that differentiate between fuel types. Those three colours are:
Light Blue: For Petrol and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles
Orange: For Diesel vehicles
Grey: For Electric and Hybrid vehicles
Please note that these stickers are not ordinary; they are hologram-based, which makes them tamper-proof and not reusable once removed.
Vehicle owners can apply for the colour-coded fuel stickers by following some simple steps. The steps are laid down below in detail:
Step 1: Please visit the official website of the Transport Department of Delhi.
Step 2: Choose the type of your vehicle (private with a white number plate or commercial with a yellow number plate), vehicle model, and the nearest dealer.
Step 3: Complete filling in your details.
Step 4: Book an appointment at your convenience and finish paying the registration fee.
As vibrant as Delhi is, it is also the most polluted city in India, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 357 according to a report of 2025. Hence, the colour-coded fuel stickers are being made compulsory to reduce the rate of pollution not only in the UT but the whole country.
The Transport Department of the UT of Delhi has mandated the colour-coded fuel stickers to address the damage done to the planet. We request that you comply with the rule if you’re a resident of the state and own a vehicle. If you fail to do the same, you’ll be liable to face the legal consequences as mentioned in Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act and will not receive the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
