Colour Coded Fuel Stickers

The Transport Department of the UT of Delhi has recently mandated a rule for all vehicle owners in the Union Territory (UT). The rule is concerning colour-coded fuel stickers to be pasted on every vehicle’s windscreen. This is being done to reduce the rate of pollution and build a sustainable UT and country.

What Is The New Mandated Rule?

The Transport Department of the UT of Delhi has mandated all the vehicle owners in the state to apply for and paste the colour-coded fuel stickers on their vehicles’ windscreen. The stickers are being mandated as a part of the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs). All the vehicle owners are instructed to comply with the law and help the authorities in making the UT and the country sustainable.

What Are Colour-Coded Fuel Stickers?

Colour-coded fuel stickers are stickers designed to help the authorities identify the type of fuel that the vehicle runs on. The stickers are launched for the ease of authorities so that they can identify high-fuel-emission vehicles.

There are three major types of colour-coded fuel stickers that differentiate between fuel types. Those three colours are:

  1. Light Blue: For Petrol and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles

  2. Orange: For Diesel vehicles

  3. Grey: For Electric and Hybrid vehicles

Please note that these stickers are not ordinary; they are hologram-based, which makes them tamper-proof and not reusable once removed.

How To Apply For Colour-Coded Fuel Stickers In Delhi?

Vehicle owners can apply for the colour-coded fuel stickers by following some simple steps. The steps are laid down below in detail:

Step 1: Please visit the official website of the Transport Department of Delhi.

Step 2: Choose the type of your vehicle (private with a white number plate or commercial with a yellow number plate), vehicle model, and the nearest dealer.

Step 3: Complete filling in your details.

Step 4: Book an appointment at your convenience and finish paying the registration fee.

Why Are The Colour-Coded Fuel Stickers Being Mandated?

As vibrant as Delhi is, it is also the most polluted city in India, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 357 according to a report of 2025. Hence, the colour-coded fuel stickers are being made compulsory to reduce the rate of pollution not only in the UT but the whole country.

Conclusion

The Transport Department of the UT of Delhi has mandated the colour-coded fuel stickers to address the damage done to the planet. We request that you comply with the rule if you’re a resident of the state and own a vehicle. If you fail to do the same, you’ll be liable to face the legal consequences as mentioned in Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act and will not receive the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
