The Western Railways department and the Railway Protection Forces (RPF) have come up with their luggage retrieval service, called ‘Operation Amanat’. In case people ever forget or leave a piece of luggage in the train compartment while travelling, this is the helping anchor.
RPF is a security force of India entrusted with protecting railway passengers, passenger areas, and railway property of the Indian Railways. Under the initiative of the RPF, any passenger who has lost their luggage can avail of this initiative.
What this does is track the lost luggage of the passengers and help them receive it back.

The details of lost luggage, along with photos for proof of ownership, are uploaded by RPF personnel of the respective divisions.
The details are uploaded to the web portal under “Mission Amanat-RPF (Operation Amanat).
Once the proof is verified by the authorities of the railway, they’ll proceed with the retrieval process.
This helps passengers in distress get a sense of reassurance and also helps elevate the travelling experience.
Mission Amanat brings the railway authorities, security forces, and passengers together to help retrieve the lost luggage. This also strengthens the communication channels between the authorities and encourages cooperation to foster a sense of community.

To collect lost luggage under Mission Amanat, people need to follow the following steps:
Before a passenger can retrieve their lost luggage, they also have to provide proof that the property that has been misplaced belongs to them.
The claim will then be further verified by the respective personnel in the RPF by reviewing documents and proof submitted, like the time, location, and place of discovery as well.
Once verified, the railway authorities will then continue with the further processions, which are to ease the retrieval process of the luggage back to the owner.
According to the circumstances, passengers may be required to collect their luggage from a designated station or arrange delivery services.
Mission Amanat has retrieved Rs. 2.77 crore worth of people’s belongings from April to October 2023. In Hyderabad, the RPF has retrieved around 676 belongings of passengers worth Rs. 1.4 crore.
In Delhi, they have retrieved baggage worth Rs. 1.2 crore and lost items worth 64 lakh were reclaimed as well. All the lost luggage usually includes items like mobile phones, laptops, purses, bags, documents, etc.
All the items retrieved are returned to their rightful owners after all procedures have been followed. These are the very few incidents mentioned. RPF has retrieved and returned a lot more luggage to its owners. This shows the efforts and commitment taken by the RPF for the passengers' well-being.

The RPF or Railway Passenger Force is dedicated to the well-being of the overall Indian Railway system. RPF has shown tremendous accompaniment and extraordinary performance, ensuring the safety and comfort of the passenger while maintaining a smooth transport and work environment. Let us have a look at some of these remarkable triumphs of RPF in 2024.
RPF has rescued 521 and more lost children and reunited them with their families. These little children were separated from their parents due to various reasons, however, the effortless work and dedication of RPF, under the mission “Nanhe Farristey”, reunited these lost children to the care of the family.
Under the operation ‘Jeevan Raksha’, the RPF managed to save the lives of 205 passengers who could have lost their limbs or lives while boarding or de-boarding trains.
The ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative by Indian Railways, has shown how RPF protects and empowers women passengers in India. As of February 2024, RPF has attended 10,659 trains and provided security to over 2 lakh lady passengers. This initiative has proven remarkable in taking legal action against 7357 persons who travelled illegally in coaches reserved for women.
Under the initiative “Uplabdh”, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested 413 people in February 2024 in the fight against touts (ticket resellers) and took legal action against them according to the law. They also confiscated railway tickets for future journeys worth Rs. 39.50 lakhs.
Under the NARCOS initiative of fighting drug crimes, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested 86 people and seized drugs worth Rs. 3.41 crores in February 2024. The arrested individuals were given to government agencies for further legal action.
The ‘Yatri Suraksha’ operation protects the passengers, as the RPF with the help of the Police prevents and detects crime against Indian railway passengers. As of February 2024, the RPF has arrested 263 criminals involved in offences against travellers.
Under ‘Operation Sanraksha’, the RPF maintains the safety and security of the Indian railway service. In the year so far, RPF has arrested 41 individuals involved in the perilous act of stone pelting on running trains.
The RPF has assisted nearly 233 elderly, sick, or injured passengers in their humanitarian approach to ‘Operation Seva’.
Operation Satark has shown the sharp and precise knowledge and thinking of the Railway Police Force in fighting the transport of Illegal Goods on the Indian Railway. So far the RPF has arrested 86 individuals and seized illegal tobacco and liquor worth Rs 79.31 lakhs. During the same operation, an unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 46.5 lakhs and gold worth Rs 1.6 crore was also recovered.
Under the famous ‘Operation Amanat’, several passengers collected their lost luggage. As of 2024, the RPF has helped recover luggage worth Rs 5.7 crore in India.
Under the operation ‘Matrishakti’, the RPF officers, especially women officers, go above and beyond to help pregnant women who go into labour during train journeys, assisting with childbirth. In February 2024, women officers from the RPF helped with 6 childbirths.
