The Government of India has reinstated the creation of 22 more All India Institute of Medical Science and the upgradation of 75 Government Medical Colleges and Institutions (GMCIs) under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. This assists in broadening the reach of super speciality services across India. Some of the major works are AIIMS Deoghar in Jharkhand and the development of Patliputra Medical College Dhanbad and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi.

More Medical Colleges For Better Health Services

Furthermore, the government has authorised 157 additional medical colleges under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. These colleges will be linked with the already existing district or referral hospitals, thus enhancing medical education as well as health care accessibility.

Support For Public Healthcare Under NHM

Shri JP Nadda, Union Health Minister, also apprised the Lok Sabha that the National Health Mission (NHM) is still extending both technical and financial assistance to the states for the enhancement and strengthening of the public healthcare system. Major activities undertaken in the execution of NHM are as follows:

  • Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

  • National Ambulance Services

  • Mobile Medical Units

  • 24x7 Health Services

  • Free Drugs and Diagnostics Services

  • Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

  • Anaemia Mukt Bharat Strategy

Targeting specific segments of society, all these government programs are aimed at providing healthcare services which are both economic and wide-reaching.

PM-ABHIM: Health Infrastructure Boost

Under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), significant funds have been allocated for health infrastructure development. For example:

  • ₹20,451.31 crore has been sanctioned for the period 2021-22 to 2024-25 across India.

  • ₹625.68 crore has been allocated to Jharkhand to establish Critical Care Blocks (CCBs), strengthen Sub-centres, and set up Block Public Health Units (BPHUs) and Integrated Public Health Labs (IPHLs).

15th Finance Commission Health Grants

As per the 15th Finance Commission, a provision of ₹70,051 crore was made from 2021–22 to 2025–26 for strengthening health care, medicines, and diagnostic services. Under this scheme, Jharkhand has received ₹2,370.19 crore.
